Borussia Dortmund has recently sustained a heavy defeat after facing off with Bayern Munich and losing 0-2. This match decided which club was going to emerge as the champions of the 2016-17 season of the German Cup.
Despite losing against their rivals, Borussia Dortmund made a dominant performance as they had 56% of possession and launched a total of 20 shots while Bayern Munich could only muster 10.
If it wasn’t for some spectacular saves from Manuel Neuer, the scoreboard would have been much more different. The German shot-stopper continues to prove why he is widely regarded as the best goal-keeper in the world.
The goal-keeper of Borussia Dortmund, Roman Burki also had an astounding match as both shot-stoppers from each side were at their best with continuous saves as they tried to keep their respective teams in the game.
Not too long ago, Thomas Tuchel talked about Mats Hummels decision to join Bayern Munich as the veteran defender made his way from Borussia Dortmund to their rivals Munich in a transfer that was officially completed on July 1st.
Tuchel stated that Mats Hummels decision was the correct one as the head coach of Borussia Dortmund said: “He has gone to a club that is actually a step up from Dortmund. But it is obviously very bitter that he has strengthened a direct rival by doing so. There is no doubt about that. Mats has made the decision to join one of the best clubs in the world’’
The recently appointed coach of Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel is aware that Bayern Munich is the team to beat in Germany but despite having lost against them in the German Cup, there are many positives to take away from this defeat and despite Bayern Munich having all of their renowned stars, Borussia Dortmund can still manage to hold their ground.
Bayern Munich are the clear favorites of winning the Bundesliga title for yet another successive year but Borussia Dortmund can and is a real threat as they actually have a realistic chance to compete against the team that is widely considered to be the best in Germany and one of the best in Europe as well.
